Happy Steamy Dance!

The Steampunk Film Festival fundraiser for the Museum of History and Industry was a smashing success, with one and a half times the goal raised! The clock will live again! (website hasn't been updated yet, but should be shortly!)

Steampunk University

I am exhausted and sore of foot and happy. I had a wonderful day today at the Steampunk University, marred only by the choice of footwear for the day and forgetting to bring a change of shoes for loadout. There were oodles of people in beautiful garb with shiny accessories to ogle, and lots of good company in our little vendors corner.

As always, squeezing myself into a 6' table was a challenge, but here's today's display:





I remembered to bring along the display for the pouches this time!



The new display cards worked almost perfectly (they got snagged by a couple of trailing sleeves):



And I believe I did a decent job at my thrifty costuming presentation. I meant to put together a powerpoint, but it never came together, so I winged it instead, with no notes, and feeding off of my audience's questions.

I also got a bonus at the end of the day. A couple of months ago I spent an afternoon with a bunch of wonderful people helping to film a short for the liveaction role playing game Rise of Aester, and at the very start of the festival, they played the video. I got to see myself on the big screen! Wooot!

I am now going to go soak my aching footsies and then collapse back onto the sofa with a cold adult beverage.

A Year in the Making, day 220

Day two back in the wire-wrapping saddle. Going to have to cut back a bit, as the arm is feeling a little sore. That's what I get for feeling cocky. But I did finish another necklace. And I'm still ahead of the game - clocking in at 251 items for day 220.

This piece will be donated, along with a pair of matching earrings once I get them done, to the silent auction for the Seattle Steampunk Film Festival, May 8th & 9th, as a part of their fundraising efforts to repair the historic clock at the Seattle Museum of History and Industry, which was vandalized on Christmas Eve last year, barely a year after it had been donated.

Part of the repair cost is covered by insurance, and the festival is hoping to raise the funds to cover the deductible, and hopefully also a security camera system to prevent a recurrence.

They'll be showing the old classics Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Time Machine, and there'll also be classes in a variety of topics offered through Steampunk University, including a session on thriftstore Steampunk costuming by yours truly, because I have a little experience in that.
