Votes for Women!

This month marks the 100th anniversary of woman's right to vote in our fair state! 100 years! It is time, dear sisters, to rise up and demand the same rights for our robot sisters and brothers! We have created them in our image, sentient metal beings, but deny them the same rights we give ourselves! Rise up and demand that our metal brethren be given the right to vote!

This month was the 100th anniversary of the vote for women in Washington State, so I wanted one of my outfits to commemorate this. There ended up being two variations, as I was working in the vendors room during the day and needed to be mobile, and wanted something a little more formal for the evening.

The day outfit, "Votes for Robots! Or Else!":

Also, on Sunday, I wore what came to be called my "Lara Croft: Tombstone Raider" outfit, with Mr. Tombstone and the offspring in coordinating outfits:

Most of our outfits were thriftstore finds. My husband did the paint jobs on our nerfs. I made the bloomers for myself and my daughter, and the holsters, out of corduroy and reinforced with the thin flexible cutting boards to support the weight of the guns. The braid was made by Puppycatmeow, and my bracers were a custom set from FantasiesInLeather.

Part one of my Saturday suit is finished!

Pink & Grey Suit

Bloomers, full circle knee-length skirt (that I drafted myself!), and jacket complete. Ruffles everywhere! I'd originally planned on wearing this with an ivory blouse, but then I fell in love with this vintage crinoline:

So now I've switched from ivory to black accents, but I can live with that.

I also finished up another new parasol to be premiered at Steamcon:

and yet another one

Yes, another new parasol completed! I'm going to have fun displaying them all.

Black & Burgundy Parasol

This one's an antique black umbrella with burgundy and black trim and 4" burgundy Venice lace. Luckily, I've already made myself one in these ("my")colors, so I'm not too overly tempted to keep this one!

A little sneak peak

Here's a few of the new pieces I've been working on for Steamcon, which is all of 11 days away! None of these are listed yet - they'll be available for the first time at the convention!

I also got this in the mail today, what I've been waiting for before starting my skirt to go with the pink and grey outfit:

Costuming progress report

I got in some good sewing hours today, working on my current project.

Pink & Grey Bloomers and Jacket

The bloomers still need a waistband, but I had to put down the thread and step away from the sewing machine after I realized I'd rolled one leg's hem outwards instead of inwards and sewed the ruffled trim to the outside of the let. Will do the seam ripping tomorrow and get them finished.

There will also be two skirts to go with this outfit, a full-circle knee-length, lolita-esque one and an a-line floor-length piece, so I can go Steampunk flirty or traditional Victorian.
